Form an erotic perspective shaved refers to the absence of pubic hair. Recently pubes, especially female public hair, have been seen as unhygienic and unaesthetic. More and more men share this view and decide to shave themselves as well. It has to be distinguished between two major techniques to remove public hair.

Depilation is the removal of visible hair including pubic hair without removing the roots of the hair with a shaver or depilation cream. After a depilation hair grow again rather fast which many people find irritating. Especially men use depilation while women prefer other techniques to remove hair.

In contrast to depilation, epilation removes hair more permanently since not only the hair is removed but their roots are as well, for instance with Brazilian waxing or epilators. Laser treatments or electro-epilation remove hair permanently since they destroy the roots of the hair, while the other techniques only rip them out and the hair grow again after some time.

When shaving one’s pubes, hair are removed from the primary sexual organs. As for women, the hair on the labia and on the venus hill are shaved, while men remove the hair from the penis and the scrotum.

The advantages of an intimate shave are seen in the aesthetic effect primarily. It has only been recently that more and more people, especially young people, shave their intimate areas since they find it very erotic. Women especially shave their intimate areas for hygienic reasons since they feel much cleaner without pubic hair, especially when the hair would otherwise come in contact with perspiration, urine, vaginal secretion, blood, or other bodily fluids. Moreover, intimate shaves also play a role in various sexual practices; for instance when performing oral intercourse, a shaved partner does feel even better and looks more appealing. Above all, a sexual practice has developed which starts with one partner shaving the intimate areas of the other partner as foreplay. Having a certain power over the partner being shaved feels stimulating and a freshly shaved intimate area feels very exciting when performing sexual intercourse.

One of the functions of pubes is secreting pheromones which attract sexual partners. Thus, an intimate shave can have the reverse effect. Instead of attracting the partner, shaving might cause a reduction of the sexual appeal. Other possible negative side effects can be cuts from shaving, inflammations, pustules, or even abscesses.
